The World Bank Group President, Mr Robert B. Zoellick, today paid a special visit to the group's Chennai office to personally deliver a vote of thanks to staff.
Mr Zoellick, who is stepping down as President on June 30, is the group's first head to visit the city.
The bank's operation in Chennai has grown to 500 today from 70 staff in 2001. The centre provides corporate financial, accounting, administrative and IT services to the bank's global operations.
“The Chennai office reflects the bank's commitment to decentralising business processes while enhancing our global presence. It is a clear demonstration of the bank's continuing efforts to use resources effectively to deliver development results on the ground,” says a release issued by the group quoting Mr Zoellick.
