Telecom operators have ramped up the deployment of 5G network in March. According to data reported by the Department of Telecommunications- Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel increased the deployment of 5G BTS by almost 42 per cent between 19 March to 2 April, deploying almost 24,506 BTS. In comparison to this, telcos deployed 13,989 stations between 5 March and 19 March. This is a massive spike in BTS deployment for operators in comparison to previous months.

So far, according to DoT data, telcos have deployed nearly 1,40,710 BTS since the launch of 5G services. Maharashtra sees the highest number of 5G stations, followed by Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Gujarat.

Between 19 March and 2 April, telcos deployed the first 5G BTS stations in Andaman and Nicoba. Thus bringing the union territory under the 5G helm. According to the DoT , 33 5G base stations were deployed in the union territory between 19 March to 2 April. Now only two union territories, Ladakh and Lakshadweep do not have any 5G BTS.

So far, only Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel are deploying 5G network. Vodafone Idea is yet to deploy any 5G services, as it continues to await funding from promoters and lenders.

businessline reported in February, that Vi is in conversation with banks for prospective funding after the government finally converted debt to equity. Reports also suggest that Vodafone Idea promoters may infuse some funds into the company too.
