The global software security market grew 12 per cent to around $16.5 billion (around Rs 7400 crore) in 2010 from $14.7 billion (around Rs 6600 crore) in 2009, according to IT advisory company Gartner. “Large vendors like Symantec and MacAfee have a combined market share of 30 per cent. Key vendors are expanding their product portfolios, buying companies where appropriate and expanding their reach into emerging markets,” said Mr Ruggero Contu, principal research analyst at Gartner.
Growth across the security segments showed great levels of variation with more mature areas such as endpoint security and Web access management showing single-digit growth, Gartner said in a press statement Segments such as security information and event management (SIEM) and secure Web gateway products experienced double-digit growth. EMC, a second-tier company, grew by 25.6 per cent in the last fiscal. However, Symantec still continued to be a market leader with a market share of 19 per cent.
