The Delhi High Court on Monday reserved its order on the bail plea of DMK MP, Ms Kanimozhi, and Kalaignar TV Managing Director, Mr Sharad Kumar, both accused in the 2G spectrum case.

The duo claimed that the Rs 200-crore-transaction from DB Group to Kalaignar TV was a valid loan transaction and the amount was returned with interest though cheques. They added that the transaction was not a dubious one or a bribe amount as alleged by the CBI. They said the documents regarding the transaction are with the CBI and therefore there was no point in keeping his clients in jail.

However, the CBI opposed this argument saying the accused tried to create a “smoke screen” by projecting the Rs 200-crore ‘bribe' as a loan transaction.

Ms Kanimozhi and Mr Kumar had moved the Delhi High Court against the Special Court's order dismissing their bail plea. They are currently lodged in Tihar jail here.

MORANI SENT TO JAIL

Meanwhile, Mr Karim Morani, Director of Cineyug Media and Entertainment Pvt Ltd, and an accused in the 2G case, was on Monday taken to Tihar Jail after the Special Court dismissed his bail plea and directed that he be taken to custody.

The CBI had accused Mr Morani of facilitating the Rs 200-crore transaction from DB Group to Kalaignar TV.

The Special Court said there was apprehension that the accused may influence the witnesses if released on bail, adding that Mr Morani's bail plea was without merit.

Taking note of the many applications filed by Mr Morani, the court said it reflects adversely on his conduct indicating that he was interested in deliberately delaying the disposal of the matter.
