Mr Shahid Usman Balwa, an accused in 2G spectrum case and the promoter of Swan Telecom, was on Thursday permitted by the Special Court to file Right to Information application seeking information and documents from the CBI regarding the case. The Special Judge (CBI), Mr O.P. Saini, allowed Mr Balwa's plea after CBI did not oppose it. Through the RTI application, Mr Balwa wanted from the CBI the case diary as well as transcripts of the recorded conversation between corporate lobbyist Ms Niira Radia and corporate executives, politicians, bureaucrats and journalists.
Mr Balwa sought information such as the progress report of the probe, the final report prepared by the investigating officer and statements of all the accused in the case. He also wanted the recorded statement of the suspects questioned during the investigation, but not charge-sheeted by the CBI. Besides, he wanted details of correspondence between the CBI, its investigation officer and its legal department during the investigation.
