An NGO, Centre for Public Interest Litigation (CPIL), on Friday moved the Supreme Court seeking its direction to the CBI to conduct a “thorough investigation” into the alleged role of the Home Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, in the 2G spectrum case.

This development comes a day after the Janata Party President, Dr Subramanian Swamy, had moved the apex court challenging the Special Court order which had dismissed his plea to make Mr Chidambaram a co-accused in the 2G case due to ‘lack of evidence'.

‘MICROMANAGEMENT'

Mr Chidambaram was the Finance Minister during the tenure of the then Telecom Minister, Mr A. Raja, when 2G licences were granted in 2008.

The Centre for Public Interest Litigation, represented by advocate Mr Prashant Bhushan, has sought a CBI probe against Mr Chidambaram under the apex court's close supervision and assisted by the Central Vigilance Commissioner and the senior Vigilance Commissioner.

The application, filed with supporting documents as ‘proof', also claimed that Mr Chidambaram was “micromanaging everything and was keeping a close eye on all developments” on the 2G spectrum allocation.
