GSM subscriber addition improved marginally in September with 6.52 million new users compared with 5.34 million in August. With this, the total number of GSM subscribers has reached 618 million.
In September, Uninor got the highest number of new subscribers with an addition of 1.92 million new users. “With better distribution spread and availability of number series, September improved on July and August. We hope to sustain our subscriber and revenue growth in the months to come,” Uninor said.
Uninor is one of the new players which got the licence in 2008 and has since notched up nearly 30 million subscribers. In comparison, other new players like Etisalat DB and STel added less than one lakh new users. Videocon saw a decline in numbers with 1.13 lakh users leaving the network.
Among the incumbent players, Idea Cellular added 1.7 million new users followed by Bharti Airtel with 9.3 lakh added to its tally. Vodafone got 8.48 lakh new users in September.
