GSM mobile operators added 7.12 million new mobile users in October, taking the total tally to 625 million, according to the data released by the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI).
The biggest gainer during the month was Uninor which added 2.67 million followed by Idea Cellular with 1.6 million new users. Other players got under a million new subscribers.
Commenting on its performance, Uninor said, “We have crossed an important milestone of 30 million subscriptions in October. While we aim to sustain this momentum, our focus also remains on revenues and costs in order to achieve our stated target of EBITDA breakeven in 2013. We have some distance to go, but we are moving in the right direction.”
Market leaders Bharti Airtel and Vodafone got 9.5 lakh and 9.2 lakh new users, respectively.
