The Planning Commission has given its nod for Andhra Pradesh's Rs 2,380-crore plan to develop ITIR (Information Technology Investment Region) in the State Capital.
The concept of ITIR, which has the backing of the Union Government, envisages developing integrated infrastructure to foster IT companies and relevant eco-system in a stipulated area.
Andhra Pradesh was among the first States to submit a plan to the Union Government for taking up an ITIR project covering the IT hubs of Gachibowli, Madhapur and Uppal areas in Hyderabad.
“We are waiting for a formal approval from the Union IT Ministry. Once we get it, we will start work on the project,” Mr Ponnala Lakshmaiah, Andhra Pradesh Minister for Information Technology, said.
Addressing reporters after inaugurating the IT firm, GGK Technologies, at an SEZ at Uppal here on Saturday, he said approvals were received from 17 Central agencies so far.
“The ITIR project would help development of IT industry in areas that are left out. Besides, it would improve IT and physical infrastructure in the region,” he said.
E-districts
As part of the national initiative, the State Government would take up e-district project at an outlay of Rs 88 crore, to provide an effective online interface for people to access various Government services.
“We are going to open 3,000 more Common Service Centres to take the total to 5,100. These centres would be connected to the 263 e-seva centres across the State,” Mr Lakshmaiah told reporters at the Secretariat in the evening.
“Using e-district project, people could get income, caste and residence certificates,” he said.
