Services introduced in AP, Assam, Bihar, Odisha

With this launch, Aircel will now offer services under all the three existing technologies of 2G, 3G and 4G LTE bringing it at par with global telecommunication offerings.

Aircel has launched 4G services across four circles — Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar and Odisha – making it the second operator to launch the services in the country.

With this launch, Aircel now offers services under all the three existing telecom technologies (2G, 3G and 4G LTE).

“The wireless broadband services will help customers transform their workplaces and homes into smarter entities. The parameters that will differentiate Aircel’s 4G LTE services include customised offerings with a quick turnaround time for deployment of services to enterprise and home customer, beating existing industry standards; high speed and low latency, which are critical to any enterprise service experience,” said Aircel Chief Marketing Officer Anupam Vasudev.

This launch makes Aircel the second operator to launch 4G services. Bharti Airtel, the country’s largest mobile operator by subscribers and revenue, had earlier launched the services across Kolkata, Bangalore, Pune and Chandigarh. The New Delhi-based company is also gearing up to launch 4G services in Gurgaon.

Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd, wireless arm of India’s largest private sector company Reliance Industries, is also readying to launch 4G services in phased manner, starting 2015.

Aircel has now launched 4G services for its enterprise and home customers – accessible over Wi-Fi devices – and not for mobile users. The company intends to launch the services for mobile users soon.

Aircel holds 20 MHz spectrum in the 4G Long Term Evolution (a technology for high-speed data transfer) across eight circles. Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, North East and Jammu & Kashmir are the other circles, apart from the ones where it launched services today, where it holds 4G spectrum.

The company, in which Malaysia’s Maxis Bhd holds a majority stake, holds 3G spectrum across 13 circles in the country. Aircel, which added nearly a million users last month, has about 73 million users as of June-end.
