Bharti Airtel has rolled out fourth generation (4G) telecom services in three cities – Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula – of the Punjab circle.
The company has also selected Chinese telecom equipment manufacturer ZTE Corporation to deploy the network in the telecom service area.
This launch, another first by Airtel, further enhances the footprint of mobile broadband in India, said Jagbir Singh, Chief Technology Officer and Director, Network Services Group at Bharti Airtel.
It will use Long Term Evolution technology, a standard for wireless communication of high-speed data over mobile phones and data terminals, to deliver the services. The services would be available in both pre and post-paid models in these cities, the company said in a statement.
The New Delhi-based company, the country’s largest telecom operator by subscribers, had earlier launched services in Kolkata, Bangalore and Pune.
It had roped in ZTE to deploy network and equipment for Kolkata circle, Ericsson for Bangalore and Nokia Siemens Network for Pune.
The company is also gearing up to launch 4G services in other circles, where it has spectrum.
