The Supreme Court today asked the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India to spell out and inform it about the modalities for computing the charges for interconnectivity among operators for carrying calls of one network through another.
A bench headed by Chief Justice Mr S H Kapadia directed TRAI to give it the figures reached by computation of the interconnection usage charges (IUC) by including the ‘capital cost' (cost of setting up infrastructure) as well as without including it.
“We want the regulator to give us the computation of the IUC to be worked out on both the basis, namely, what would be the IUC if capital cost is taken into account and what would be the IUC if the capital cost is not taken into account?,” the bench, also comprising Mr Justice K.S. Radhakrishnan and Mr Justice Swatanter Kumar, said.
The bench directed TRAI to furnish the details before October 31., saying it would decide the dispute and pass further order after going through the details.
