Installation and commissioning of 2G and 3G mobile towers in Andhra Pradesh has to be speeded up, a review by the Union Minister of State for ICT, Killi Kruparani has shown.
Expressing surprise that BSNL could not achieve the target set for March 31, the Minister directed that a special team of officers be sent to accelerate the work in the State. The Minister represent Srikakulam district of the State in the Lok Sabha.
Of the target of commissioning 2, 618 2G towers, a total of 2.519 have been completed by March 31, 2013. Similarly of the target of 1,547, 3G mobile towers, 1,447 have been commissioned, a press release from the Minister’s office said.
The Minister said BSNL officers should discuss with the A.P. Circle and chalk out an action plan to complete the installation of the remaining towers. She also asked the State-owned enterprise to submit the plan at the earliest. Anupam Srivastava, Director (Consumer Mobility),and Banerjee, General Manager (GSM), BSNL took part in the meeting in New Delhi recently, the release added.
