GSM operators add 3.57 m users in June

GSM operators added 3.57 million subscribers in June, with incumbents adding more subscribers than newer players during the month. This is a 0.54 per cent increase from the previous month as the total subscriber base rose to 671.13 million as of June 30, according to the data compiled by GSM operators’ body Cellular Operators’ Association of India (COAI).

Bharti Airtelt added the maximum of 1.26 million subscribers taking the total to 190.91 million as of June. It had a market share of 28.45 per cent, a 0.67 per cent increase from May, among the nine GSM operators in the country.

Idea Cellular came in second in subscriber additions, with the company adding 1.21 million users during the month, taking its total to 124.97 million. However, among the GSM operators the Aditya Birla group company ranked third in market share. The Mumbai-based company’s market share rose to 18.62 per cent.

Vodafone India added 347,025 users, increasing its total user base to 155.03 million. The Mumbai-based firm had a 23.10 per cent market share. While Aircel added 611,958 users, Uninor 295,941 subscribers and Videocon 132,816 during the month. State-owned MTNL lost 287,878 subscribers during the month.
