The country’s GSM operators have added 2.10 million rural users in June, taking their total to 302.73 million, with Vodafone India adding the maximum users during the month. The subscriber addition is 0.7 per cent rise from the previous month.
Vodafone India added the maximum of 5.8 lakh users during the month under review, taking its total subscribers in rural India to 90.91 million, according to data released by industry body Cellular Operators’ Association of India (COAI).
With 96.63 million subscribers, Bharti Airtel had the maximum rural users as of June-end. The New Delhi-based operator added 0.45 million users during the reporting month. The maximum rural subscriber addition of 428,022 came in from West Bengal, while Uttar Pradesh (East) had the maximum of 32.64 million users.
Idea Cellular added 0.36 million users, taking its total to 76.85 million, while Aircel added 0.27 million taking its total subscriber base to 25.96 million as of June-end. Uninor added 0.44 million users, increasing its total rural subscriber base to 12.38 million.
