The computer hardware sector in Andhra Pradesh is likely to get a boost, with the two-day Advantage AP Summit seeing a clutch of new companies showing interest to set up manufacturing facilities here.

Hardware majors Samsung, Hitachi and Huawei were among the companies that are exploring possibilities of setting up units in the State.

Mr Ponnala Lakshmaiah, the State Minister for Information Technology, said these companies had held preliminary talks.

“A number of other new companies had attended the summit and indicated interest in establishing their presence here. The new Hardware Policy that the State unveiled will be giving a boost to this sector,” he told media persons here.

The Minister said the State Government had earmarked Rs 140 crore to set up a animation and gaming park in the State. Part of these funds will also be spent on establishing incubation centres in school and colleges in the State, he said, adding the government will provide Rs 50 lakh to each school or college that came forward with proper proposals.

Address issues

Earlier, the Chief Minister, Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy, held a meeting with CEOs of 26 IT firms, stating that the Government will soon form a committee to address the core problems being faced by the industry.

The session was informed that the turnover of IT companies in the State crossed Rs 53,000 crore, with the State emerging in the third position.

The ITsAP award for start-up enterprise winners for 2012 were given to Ray Business Tech, Sparc CyberTech, Caliber Tech, Phoenix IT Solutions and BV Raju Institute of Technology.
