India’s free messaging application provider Hike Messenger on Monday said it has crossed 20 million users milestone, achieving it in one and a half years of its launch. The company said close to 90 per cent of the app’s users are from India and over 80 per cent of them are under the age of 25. Launched globally in December 2012, the company went from five million to 15 million users in nine months and the next 5 million in just three months, it said. The company also launched ‘Hidden Mode’ in Hike through which consumers can now hide private chats so that no one even knows they are hidden, and access them only with the right password.
“We are building these new features basis the feedback of our beta-users called the Hike ninjas. This approach is working really well for us and going forward we expect it to help us grow even faster,” Kavin Bharti Mittal, Head - Product and Strategy, Hike Messenger, said.
He said India has almost a 100 million active mobile Internet users and that number is growing rapidly every year. “That’s the market, which we’re building for”, he added.
Hike is available globally on iOS, Android, Blackberry, WP, S40, S60 and Noxia X.
