Housing.co.in, a start-up set up by 12 IITians, has just acquired a domain name called housing.com for $500,000 from a US techie.
The unnamed techie had registered this domain for less than $50 about 20 years ago.
Housing.co.in, which has just spreading wings in various Indian cities, found its .com quite attractive and entered into negotiations with its owner. “We have acquired it for half a million (dollars),” an executive of the start-up told Business Line .
The start-up feels that it would require the .com twin when it goes for expansion abroad.
“We are planning to hit international markets in the next six months. We have been getting a lot of traction from prospective partners from other countries. And they are more than willing to invest in their countries initiative,” Advitiya Sharma, a housing.co.in, spokesperson, said.
The housing rentals firm also acquired an attractive all 3s’ phone number 03-333-333-333 that can take all queries from its users. It spent another $500,000 for the number.
