The Cyberpark being set up by Kerala IT, a State Government initiative in Kozhikode, has received the final Special Economic Zone (SEZ) notification from the Union Ministry of Commerce.
The Cyberpark and the allied infrastructure will come up on a total of 43 acres of land and the Union Ministry's notification covers 25 acres, which will be known as the IT/ITES Special Economic Zone.
Mr Binu Pazhoor, Chief Executive Officer of Cyberpark, welcomed the notification and said it has come at a time when the process of finalising companies for various works to establish the park was in an advanced stage. The park would become completely operational in 2015, generating direct employment to around 70,000 IT professionals and create indirect job opportunities for more than one lakh persons.
Cyberpark, which is the first venture of Kerala IT in the Malabar region, will act as a hub for two spoke-parks coming up in Kannur and Kasaragod.
Mr Binu said the Cyberpark would feature eco-friendly buildings with energy-efficient layouts and interiors, fully furnished incubators to support start-up small and medium enterprises, banks, ATMs, food courts, day care facilities, reprography centres, rain harvesting facilities and an in-house water purification plant, among other things.
The Cyberpark in Kannur is being developed on 25 acres of land, which has been notified as a SEZ. The preliminary master plan has been completed and the work on the design for the first IT building, with a built-up area of 50,000 square feet, is in progress.
The Kasaragod park is planned on 100 acres of land, of which, 25 acres will be developed initially as an IT/ITES SEZ. The first building here is envisaged to have a built-up area of 1.50 lakh sq.ft., which is expected to generate employment for 2,000 IT personnel in the initial phase.
Mr Binu said the parks being developed in Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod, had high development potential.
