L&T Construction and L&T Infotech, both subsidiaries of Larsen & Toubro, India’s largest engineering and construction major, have been selected for a surveillance project in Mumbai city.
The companies, which quoted ₹950 crore, were the lowest bidders for the project.
They will install about 6,000 closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras across the metro.
The CCTV cameras will be monitored remotely, while an emergency number along the lines of the 911 service in the US will also be set up.
Trimax IT Infrastructure and Services Ltd, which was among the lowest bidders, was another company in the fray.
The Maharashtra government had decided to strengthen surveillance in the metro by installing CCTVs following the terrorist attacks in 2008.
This was the fourth effort, following three failed attempts, by the State government to seek bids for the project.
