Swiss-based life sciences major Lonza Group will be setting up a knowledge centre-cum-manufacturing facility in Hyderabad with an investment of about Rs 700 crore.
Dr J. Geetha Reddy, Minister for Industries, Government of Andhra Pradesh, has formally launched the plaque of the proposed centre at BioAsia 2011, the flagship biotech event of Government of Andhra Pradesh here on Tuesday.
Making a presentation later, Dr Harry Rathore, MD and Country Head, Lonza India said Lonza would be focussing on custom manufacturing of APIs (active pharmaceutical ingredients), among others, for companies involved in innovations. ``About 90 per cent of our portfolio is in life-sciences with key focus on markets bio research, nutraceuticals, agriculture, etc.,'' he said.
The knowledge centre, to come up in a 27-acre plot in Phase III Genome Valley here, would be the hub for Lonza in India. “We will move our India headquarters from Mumbai to Hyderabad and consolidate our R&D activity here,” he said. Currently, Lonza has 70 employees in Mumbai.
