The next time you lose your smartphone, you need not worry about identity theft or someone else accessing your personal data.

An application developed by Boston-based Connectxcite allows users to delete all data remotely.

Called ‘Peace of Mind,’ the application allows users to send a SMS typing the password or sentence (registered at the time of downloading the app); thereby deleting all personal data from the handset.

The data deleted will include all downloads (music and video), photographs, MMS & SMS contacts from the address-book, social media & email accounts and emails.

“In case the SIM-cards have been changed, the handset will ask for the password thrice. After the third incorrect entry, data will be automatically deleted,” Pankaj Som Chaturvedi, Country Manager, Business Development, Connectxcite, said. The app was released in India in January this year.

At present, the application is available only on the Android platform (Google Play) and is chargeable at Rs 99 ($1.99) per download. Plans are afoot to develop the app on the iOS (Apple) Windows and Blackberry platforms also.

According to Chaturvedi, the company is also looking for tie-ups with educational institutions and FMCG companies.

So far, the company has written to a couple of educational institutions for downloading the app. Downloads for educational institutions will, however, be free.
