Lyca Mobile has launched a service using which Indians travelling abroad can call back home at Re 1 per minute. The cheapest service at present offered by Indian telecom companies is Rs 16 per minute, according to a company official.
Lyca Telecom, a subsidiary of UK-based Lyca Mobile, has launched its international roaming SIM card for Indian travellers. The lifetime card is free of rent/deposits, said Lyca Mobile CEO Milind Kangle. A card with a calling value of £1 costs Rs 250. A person can top up at nearly one million outlets in 17 countries. Nearly 30 million customers use the company’s service, Kangle told newspersons.
COO Premananthan Sivasamy said the company plans to extend its distribution network across Asia, West Asia and Africa. It will invest around Rs 100 crore in the next three years.
At present, Lyca’s revenue from Indian operations stands at Rs 5 crore and this is expected to increase to nearly Rs 60 crore next year mainly due to the launch of the new service, he said.
