Finnish-handset major Nokia on Tuesday announced the launch of venue-based map facilities for Kolkata.
The services introduced under the ‘Here’ (formerly Nokia Maps) brand is called ‘Here Venue’ and allows a user to find details specific to a venue. For example, a user can find specific stores, product offers, floor levels, elevators and even restrooms in a mall.
As of now, only shopping malls have been included in places of interest. Services are likely to be extended to airports.
Eight city-based malls have been included in the list, Kislay Kumar, General Manager – East Market, Nokia India, said.
Handsets
Currently, the venue-based mapping services are available across ‘Lumia’ and ‘Asha’ range of Nokia’s smartphones and other handsets that operate on the Windows platform. Automobile companies such as BMW, Mercedes, Volkswagen and Hyundai that use Nokia’s mapping facilities will also be able to use these
According to a Nokia official, although ‘Here’ services are available across other operating systems that include iOS (Apple) and Google’s Android, the venue-specific services will not be available across these operating systems.
Venue-based maps are at present available across 20 cities that include Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore among others.
