The Supreme Court is likely to give its decision on Sistema Shyam’s appeal to revoke an earlier order to cancel its licences. The telecom company had filed a curative petition seeking an exemption from the court’s February order on grounds that its operations are based on CDMA spectrum and hence could not have been part of the 2G scam. The apex court had rejected an earlier appeal from the company to reconsider the order to cancel its licences. The fate of the curative petition will have huge ramification for the company. If the court declines its request then its licences are set to be cancelled on January 18. Meanwhile, the Government is trying to bail out the Russian owned company by tweaking the policy.
