Team Path Finders from MRCE, Faridabad, has won the Imagine Cup 2013 for their project Swasthya Sanjivani that provides affordable, quick and automised healthcare services to people in remote areas.

They are among the 10 finalists that made it to the annual competition conducted by Microsoft to identify and promote entrepreneurship. The winning team would represent in India at the global finals scheduled to be held at St Petersburg in Russia. The winners will be given mentorship to hone their app at the global event.

Team Opus has been adjudged Runner up in the Innovation category, while Team Rudder Mechanics bagged the prize in the World Citizenship category.

The awards were given away by Nasscom President Som Mittal and Microsoft India Chairman Bhaskar Pramanik. “Into its 11{+t}{+h} year, the Imaging Cup received 14,000 entries from across the country. About 5,000 of them pitched in for the awards in the two categories. Some of them could make it to the app store of Microsoft, with the intellectual property resting with the developers,” Bhaskar Pramanik said.

Changing paradigm

Som Mittal said the way people gained knowledge had completely changed. “We used to go to libraries but you can access knowledge right across your table using the Internet,” he said.

“Learn continuously and don’t let it (success) go to the head. Humility is very important as you grow. Have passion and continue with it forever,” he said. “Every problem the country is facing is an opportunity. You identify a problem and try to solve it by developing relevant apps,” he said.
