Software company Pitney Bowes Business Insight (PBBI) has plans to invest Rs 500 crore over the next three years in India to strengthen its product development centre, and sales and marketing team in the country.
“Indian market is of strategic importance for us. We anticipate that the investment over the next three years will be in the region of over Rs 500 crore,” said PBBI President Mr John O’ Hara.
Mr O’Hara mentioned the company has already invested approximately Rs 200 crore in India in 2007-2010 and the next phase of Rs 400 crore investment is in line with its planned expansion in India. PPBI is a software arm of 90 year old postage and mailing solution provider Pitney Bowes.
The company has plans to double headcount in the product development division in three years time. “PBBI is now helping companies move from physical mailing system to digital mailing. In this movement, there are a lot of effort that we put in and simultaneously is looking at intelligent use of data that we come across,” said Mr O’Hara.
Mr O’Hara said PBBI is looking for hiring engineering talents in India from reputed institutes, namely Indian Institutes of Technology and other equivalent institutes.
“We are impressed with talents here and therefore have plans to put more people from India in our various businesses,” said Mr O’Hara.
In this calendar year, PBBI is expected to increase its headcount by 60 per cent in its sales division, he said. The company has close to 530 people in India working for its product development and sales division, he added.
The company is looking for major opportunity in Unique Identity (UID) projects, he said. “There is no country in the world which has such kind of a well planned project (UID). This is going to be a wealth generation project for India. This is a very exciting project for us,” Mr O’Hara said.
Mr O’Hara mentioned that PBBI in India registered 70 per cent growth in revenue in last calendar year and expects to maintain the momentum.
PBBI globally contributed approximately $500 million in last calendar year to total revenue of its parent company Pitney Bowes, he added.
