Greater interest in open-source technologies in the Asia-Pacific region has prompted Red Hat Inc. to invest further in India. It has added strength to its Centre of Excellence in Pune, making this its largest engineering facility outside of North America, and has also expanded its R&D facility in Bangalore.
Mr Paul Cormier, Executive Vice-President, products and technologies, Red Hat, said: “We expect the current expansion to further Red Hat's goal to lead the way in innovative collaboration and open-source technology development locally, regionally and globally.” With this expansion, Red Hat hopes to incubate, sustain and support local talent and maintain high quality of contributions to the open-source community locally and internationally, he added.
Red Hat's Pune Centre will contribute to engineering and support operations. The Bangalore Centre, which was part of the October 2011 acquisition of cloud computing start-up Gluster, is now known as Red Hat Storage, and is due to be formally inaugurated tomorrow.
