Facebook is getting a facelift.

From a social networking site that lets users advertise their ‘status’ and peep into what others are sharing, Facebook, as its Founder Mark Zuckerberg promises, will now become your best personalised newspaper.

The completely revamped design will make your news feed more visual.

Zuckerberg says it is time Facebook had an attractive first page that captures the gist of goings on. Showcasing the new interface on Thursday night at Facebook’s California headquarters, he said the text content shared on the site is under 30 per cent while the pictorial content has touched 50 per cent.

“The changes we are making are in tune with the evolving usage patterns. Our mission is to make the world more open and connected and provide the best personalised newspaper. We build services that tell what’s going on with friends and things they care about. Our goal is a lot broader,” he said.

Facebook, which has experienced some waning of user interest, put through major changes just over a year ago.

The latest design rejig seems to have also picked up some good features from competing niche sites such as LinkedIn, Pinterest, Snapchat and Quickr to bring in more newsy, current stuff.

While some of you may have experienced the redesigned Facebook, others will get to see it in phases over the next few weeks. You can also get onto the waitlist at >www.facebook.com/newsfeed .

These design updates will be available on your iPhone and iPad in the coming weeks and for Android soon thereafter.
