South Korea’s Samsung SDI has evinced interest in investing in India. A delegation of senior executives from the company, led by its President and Chief Executive Sangjin Park, met Minister for Communications and Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad here on Friday.
In the meeting, Prasad highlighted the opportunity offered by the National Optic Fibre Network for battery manufacturers, a ministry statement said.
The minister also spoke about the growing demand for mobile phones, e-bikes, cars and other consumer durables in India.
This is a good opportunity for companies such as Samsung, which manufactures diverse energy-storage solutions ranging from mobile phone batteries to automotive batteries.
Assuring the company of all possible support from the Government, Prasad invited the CEO to select any electronic manufacturing cluster for its investments.
He also said that programmes such as ‘Digital India’ make a case for Samsung to expand its manufacturing capacities in India.
