The Communication and IT Minister, Mr Kapil Sibal, will meet Internet giants including Google and Facebook on December 15 to formulate guidelines for monitoring content on social networking Web sites
. According to Government sources, the Minister wants to thrash out a consensus on the issue. They said that the Minister wants the Internet firms to formulate self-regulation guidelines so that the Government does not have to intervene.
The issue of monitoring content on social media sites has drawn criticism from various quarters over the past few days after Mr Sibal announced plans to formulate new guidelines.
