Silicon Image opens R&D centre in Hyderabad

US-based provider of wireless and wired high definition connectivity solutions, Silicon Image, set up its research and development centre here.

“The R&D centre here collaborates with two other centres located in Sunnyvale, US and Shanghai,” Mr Camillo Martino, Chief Executive Officer, Silicon Image Inc told newspersons here on Friday.

The company has lined up $15 million investment for the new centre some of which has already been spent.

Mr Rashid Osamani, Vice President of the company said Hyderabad was chosen for setting up the centre in view of its engineering talent and on-going technology innovation.

The focus of the centre would be on advanced high definition connectivity solutions. “We are also open to research collaborations with local academic and research institutions,” Mr Osamani said.

Mr D V R Murthy, Managing Director, Silicon Image India, said about 160 engineering professionals will be recruited by the company within one year for the new centres.

Already, the centre is operational with 80 employees, he added.

The company which bought Sibeam for $25.5 million in April last year, is looking for strategic buyouts, including in India

“We are looking for acquisitions that fit our long-term connectivity. It could happen in India also if the opportunity presents itself,” Mr Martino said while declining to comment further.
