Sony’s next generation PlayStation 4 is set to hit the Indian market in early January, within two months of its US launch.
PS4, which will be available in the country on January 6, has been priced at Rs 39,990 and will be launched with a library of over 20 games, including titles such as Knack and Killzone: Shadow Fall. These games are priced in the range of Rs 2,500-5,000.
“After a successful launch in the US and European markets, we are now launching PS4 in India. There is an unprecedented demand for PS4 across the world and amongst the Indian gamers. We expect nearly 50-55 per cent sales to come through pre-booking and the balance is also expected to be sold within days of its launch,” said Atindriya Bose Country Head, PlayStation India.
He said compared with other countries, India might be low in the pecking order, but the demand is not insignificant.
Without giving a specific number, he said the company was confident of selling similar numbers as PS3 sold in the second or third year. “We believe the PlayStation’s target audiences are college students, early earners as well as kids,” he said.
The Indian console market is estimated at Rs 700-750 crore and Sony claims to have a majority market share of over 70 per cent.
Playstation camera Sony said the Playstation camera would be available at Rs 4,990 and an additional game controller will cost Rs 4,990.
The PS4 integrates second screens, including the PlayStaion Vita System, smartphones, tablet to connect gamers to the Playstation ecosystem wherever they are.
The PS4 is powered by an eight-core AMD Jaguar CPU and features 500GB hard drive, 8GB of unified memory and built-in Blu Ray drive. It also features Wi-Fi connectivity option, an Ethernet port, Bluetooth and two USB ports.
