The Department of Telecommunications (DoT), has sought Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (TRAI) recommendations to enable reselling of telecom services in the country.
The reselling of services would be done by setting up virtual network operators (VNOs), who will offer services by tying up with existing operators but without acquiring/holding spectrum.
This would facilitate resale of the services under the proposed licensing regime and would help in bringing in robust competition in the sector.
The regulations for VNO would also ensure compliance with security and licences.
The VNOs would be able to provide national long distance, international long distance, access services (basic and mobile) and internet services both on a retail and wholesale basis, sources in the Ministry of Communications & Information Technology said.
