Milagrow Business and Knowledge Solutions (P) Ltd, manufacturer of tablet personal computers, is considering setting up a manufacturing plant in the country.
At present, it designs table PCs and gets them manufactured in Germany and China. However, considering that the demand for tablet PCs will be huge in the next three to four years, the company wants to consider a plant in India.
“We are considering Sriperumbudur or Pune. We should start planning by next year,” said Rajeev Karwal, Founder Director, Milagrow. “Our plan is to have the plant by 2015,” he told Business Line .
Karwal said the company hopes to sell about 1.5 lakh tablet PCs in the current financial year. While the company has sold nearly 10,000 units till now in this fiscal, it hopes that the sales will pick up during the next three months with the g festival season.
However, by 2015, when the demand for tablet PCs would be nearly 15 million, the company hopes to have a market share of nearly 1.5 million units.
Investment plan
On the potential investment in the plant, Karwal said that excluding the cost of land acquisition, the investment could be $5-6 million.
Milagrow, which has 11 products under its fold, sources the Windows-based tablet PCs from Germany, and the Google Android-based units from China.
The company is about to start export of its tablet PCs during the month end. To begin with, it will export to Mexico, where the company feels there is huge demand, like in India, for such products.
Adding to the product portfolio, Milagrow recently launched a sunlight readable tabtop – Milagrow TabTop 10.4 - with EyeProtect circuit. The tablet has a pre-installed EyeProtect circuit, which changes its picture according to ambient light conditions, Karwal told newspersons.
The new product, which is priced at Rs 22,990 with a 16 GB internal memory, was launched at retailer Vivek’s in the city.
