The Telecom Commission has lobbed the recommendations on spectrum auction back to the telecom regulator. The Commission, which met today to discuss the TRAI proposals, did not take a decision due to lack of consensus.
Mr R. Chandrashekhar, Chairman, Telecom Commission, said queries from members will be sent to TRAI by Wednesday. They will seek to know the rationale behind the base price, the impact on the industry and re-farming. This gives some hope to the industry that has condemned the TRAI plan.
The Department of Telecom expects to receive a response from the regulator in two weeks. The Commission may meet on May 14 and take a view by May-end. The final decision will be made by an Empowered Group of Ministers.
