The world's third largest retailer Tesco plans to add another 2,000 persons at its captive centre in India by March 2012, a company official has indicated.
The company will be expanding capacity at its Bangalore facility by adding 1,000 more seats in order to cater to its hiring projections
Of the incremental hiring at Tesco Hindustan Service Centre, 70 per cent would be for the back-office teams while the remaining would be absorbed for IT services, said Mr Dayanand Allapur, Head of Human Resources at THSC.
Apart from supporting the IT operations for Tesco worldwide, its 5,000 employee-strong shared services unit also provides services such as finance and accounting, book keeping and monitoring of its stores globally.
Of its overall employee base in India, THSC has more than 800 persons who have been with the company for over four years, said Mr Allapur. Attrition, which is around 20 per cent on an annualised basis, continues to be a challenge for the company.
According to recent news reports in the UK media, Tesco is preparing to switch 350 posts to its support centre in India. Jobs in Dundee, Welwyn Garden City and Cardiff will be affected although staff will be given the chance to switch to other roles within the company, the reports said.
