Semiconductor maker AMD has realigned its market strategy for India following stiff competition from Intel and ARM in the country.
India business heads of AMD will report directly to the AMD Executive Team based out of California. The company also plans to offer more incentives to its India distributors.

Additionally, AMD is planning to focus its energies on making processors for tablets and other devices that consume less power.
“India is still under penetrated when it comes to computing devices and this can be attributed to other reasons beyond price. We will bring to market devices that will consume less power,” Mr Rory Read, Chief Executive Officer of AMD, told Business Line .
As a part of this strategy, AMD has updated its product roadmap for India, which features processors such as Trinity and Brazos 2.0 for notebooks and desktops and ‘Hondo', a tablet processor. Further, four new Opteron processors, which is used in server computers, will be introduced later this year along with other processors.
PC uptake in India is showing signs of slowdown as interest in smartphones and tablets increase. The combined desk-based and mobile PC market in India totalled nearly 2.5 million units in the fourth quarter of 2011, a 6.5 per cent decline from the same period in 2010, according to Gartner. On the other hand, smartphone shipments in India are poised to grow at an average of 68 per cent to reach 81.5 million units by 2015, according to IDC.
