Need extra time on Facebook or Twitter? Work harder, says Cognizant Technology Solutions to its employees.
Cognizant allows its employees to access social networking sites such as Facebook for only 30 minutes a day. However, better performers can redeem their ‘wow' points against social media minutes.
Young employees are interested to buy time and “enrich” knowledge than redeem their points to snap up pens and mugs, said Mr Lakshmi Narayanan, Vice-Chairman of the US-based software company. The average age of its employees is 26.
“We are in an era of social revolution, which can be compared to that of the client server revolution a few years ago. We, at Cognizant, have realised it is important to focus on social media,” he said.
“We need to keep employees happy by embracing social revolution. This will help boost employees' morale,” he said. “There could soon be a Chief Emerging Opportunity.”
Incidentally, the CEO has been asked to look at how the company should handle the social revolution for the next four to five years.
Mr Narayan said one question that is often being posed to senior management is: What's your social strategy? After digital strategy, it is social strategy that companies need to focus on, he said while launching UniMity PeoplePower, a solution to build enterprise communities.
Does your presentation include words such as cloud, mobility and social? If not, then the company will be branded as ‘old' and ‘legacy'. Use such words, especially social, repeatedly, he said.
