Wonobo, a portal offering street view, today launched its mobile version that will enable a person to ‘see’ a specific surrounding while on the go.
“The mobile platform is very important for any location-based service provider and after the launch of the website last November, we are now ready with the mobile platform,” Sajid Malik, chairman and managing director of Genesys International, told PTI here.
The publicly traded Genesys is the company behind the Mumbai-based Wonobo.com, which was launched after a two-year mapping of the streets across 54 cities in the country by specialised vehicles mounted with cameras.
The application can be downloaded from the play store by Android operating system users, he said, adding it will soon be available on the IOS and BB platforms.
Just like in the website, users will be able to take a 360-degree view of a mapped locality using the application and will be able to find nearby points of interest.
Malik said at present, mobile users will not be able to use the phone’s GPS to see the merchants and services around their current location, but added the feature is already in place and can be rolled out.
He said the website is getting about 2-3 million searches every month and already has a tie-up with 4.5 million merchants across the 54 cities and a dedicated point of interest page to each of those.
At present, all the merchants have not been charged for being on board, he said, adding that the next phase is to focus on monetising aspect.
