The acquisition of Geometric by HCL Technologies gives the latter a fillip to its Internet of Things (IoT) segment.
“The additional resources that HCL gets from this acquisition, coupled with Geometric’s ability to solve critical issues for engineering clients are huge positives,” said Sabchit Vir Gogia, Analyst at Greyhound Research. While this area of business is small in terms of revenues, Geometric brings in solid muscle in automotive engineering, which with the likes of Tesla and others have started off the blocks, ahead of other sectors, he added.
These companies are looking to reduce time to market, increase focus on standards and reliability and at the same time optimise costs for which they are partnering with outsourcing companies.
Last year, SAP Labs set up a centre in Bengaluru that will work on emerging technologies such as IoT. Industry watchers reason that companies are upping the ante on IoT due to the fact that around 50 billion devices are expected to have sensors in-built, which further are expected to be connected to the Internet.
