Aegis, Essar Group’s Business Process Outsourcing arm, has hired more than 600 American military veterans and their spouses in 2013.
Much of these hiring has taken place at its centres in Killeen, Texas, and Sierra Vista, Arizona, which are adjacent to US military bases, the company said in a statement.
“At Aegis, we enjoy a long and proud tradition of hiring military veterans and their families. Our experience is that military veterans and their families are a well-rounded, tech-savvy, and well-travelled work force with a strong desire to serve,” said Sandip Sen, Global Chief Executive Officer at Aegis.
According to industry sources, hiring military veterans improves the longevity of the employment tenure as they are more committed and loyal, and due to their strong understanding of the domain.
The outsourcer hired 202 veterans (12 per cent of all hires), 36 differently-abled veterans (2 per cent) and 299 military spouses (18 per cent) for its Killeen centre. Of the 183 hired at its Sierra Vista centre, 8 were veterans (3 per cent), 27 were differently-abled veterans (11 per cent) and 25 were military spouses (10 per cent). Aegis is in talks to buy outsourcer Symphony House Bhd, which is listed on the Malaysian stock exchange and employs about 1,500 personnel.
“We want to move into Malaysia as it gives us geographical access to potential clients in the region. It could be our regional hub. We have signed a letter of intent with Symphony and the deal will be closed subject to certain conditions,” Sen had told Business Line last week.
While the company did not disclose the deal size, market analysts said that it could be in the range of $20-25 million.
