Bharti Airtel on Tuesday reported a consolidated net profit of ₹1,554 crore for the first quarter ended June 30, up 40 per cent compared with ₹1,108 crore in same period last year.
The consolidated revenue for the quarter also rose at ₹23,671 crore growing by 3 per cent against ₹22,962 crore over the corresponding quarter last year.
Consolidated mobile data revenues at ₹3,459 crore also grew by 57 per cent year-on-year, lifted by data traffic growth of 86.5 per cent, the company said.
India revenues reported a growth of 10 per cent year-on-year, led by 22 per cent in ‘Airtel business (B2B)’ and 16 per cent in Digital TV, it said.
India revenues Adjusted for the impact in reduction of termination rates, India revenues grew on an underlying basis by 13 per cent and mobile revenues by 12 per cent year-on-year.
Mobile data revenue at ₹2,609 crore registered a growth of 67 per cent year-on-year in India, lifted by increase in the data customer base by 26 per cent and traffic by 83 per cent. “The year has begun on a healthy note, with underlying revenue growth accelerating to 12.7 per cent in India. Our customer base has continued to steadily expand. Mobile minutes and data traffic have grown by 7.4 per cent and 83.4 per cent respectively,” Gopal Vittal, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, India & South Asia, Airtel, said.
Data ARPU has moved up by ₹42 to ₹181 in the first quarter, led by 43 per cent increase in data usage per customer, the company said.
Mobile data revenues contribute to 19 per cent of Mobile India revenues vis-à-vis 12 per cent in the corresponding quarter last year, it added.
Total customer base as of June 30 stood at 331.86 million. However, Airtel’s Africa revenue declined by 12 per cent to ₹6,159.5 crore, compared with ₹6,968.5 crore in the first quarter of last fiscal.
Global CFO appointed Meanwhile, the board of directors has appointed Nilanjan Roy as the Global Chief Financial Officer effective Wednesday.
He will take over from Srikanth Balachandran, who is being appointed as the Global Chief Human Resources Officer.
Roy is currently the CFO for the India and South Asia business, and has previously held the roles of Financial Controller and Controller - India Mobile Business. Balachandran has been the Global CFO of Bharti Airtel since April, 2011.
New Chief Brand Officer The board also has appointed Rajiv Mathrani as Chief Brand Officer for its India operations, who will lead Airtel’s brand positioning, strategic initiatives and associations, and will report to Srini Gopalan, Director – Consumer Business.
Shares of Airtel closed at ₹413.70 on the BSE on Tuesday, down 1.25 per cent from the previous close.
