Airtel expands 4G service in Punjab

Telecom major Bharti Airtel on Monday expanded 4G services to 4 towns in Punjab —— Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Phagwara and Kapurthala.

Customers in these towns will be able to access 4G services through dongles and wifi modems on Apple iPhone 5S and 5C, Xolo LT 900 and LG G2 (model D802T).

“Today, we are proud to announce the much awaited launch of Airtel 4G services in Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Phagwara and Kapurthala that fulfils a huge market requirement,” Bharti Airtel Hub CEO - Upper North Manu Sood said in a statement.

So far, it has been providing 4G service in Chandigarh, Mohali, Panchkula, Ludhiana and Jalandhar.

The users of 4G service can watch high definition video streaming with zero buffering, download 10 movies in less than 30 minutes, uploading 2 high quality photos per second among other Internet based services, the statement said.

Customers using iPhone 5s or iPhone 5c will need to upgrade to a USIM (Universal SIM) or 4G SIM to avail 4G service, it said.

While Airtel will provide USIM free with the purchase of dongle or modem; separately, it will cost Rs 49. Airtel is selling 4G the dongles for Rs 1,500 and the modem at Rs 2,500.

Airtel is offering 10 gigabyte of high speed Internet usage on 4G network for Rs 999 to postpaid users and Rs 995 for prepaid users on mobiles only. For postpaid users, Airtel is offering 4G service starting Rs 100, the statement said.
