Many Airtel subscribers across Chennai reported that they were not able to get the network signal.
There were tweets saying that they were able to make phone calls, but not able to access the data network.
Sources in the telecom industry said this could have been a 4G or VoLTE related issue.
Airtel has now restored the network. A tweet from Airtel Presence said the network had been restored.
User who are still facing network issue with Airtel (voice or data) can restart their phones once. If the issue persists, they can manually select Airtel in the network operators settings.
Update: The next day (Friday), Airtel sent an SMS to users explaining the issue. The SMS said:
Due to a system up-gradation activity that we did yesterday, you might have faced temporary service disruption on your Airtel Mobile. The issue has been resolved. However in case you are still unable to use the services, please switch OFF and ON your phone. We deeply regret the inconvenience.
