Bharti Airtel (Airtel), the third largest mobile services provider in the world, said effective Monday, all its pre-paid mobile customers nationally will be moved to the ‘more affordable’ per second bill plan.
Rolled out under the new ‘Pay For What You Use’ initiative as part of the company’s ‘Customer First’ commitment, this would ensure that customers pay only for the time they use the network, Airtel said.
“Our customers are the reason for us to be in business, we therefore constantly introduce innovative initiatives with a commitment to deliver a world class experience to them,” said Ajai Puri, Director – Market Operations, Bharti Airtel (India & South Asia).
Airtel’s pre-paid customers constituted 94.4 per cent of its total user base as of June-end and the company had over 333 million customers across its operations as of July- end.
Though a large majority of Airtel pre-paid customers are already on the per second billing plan, with this initiative the company aims to ensure that its entire pre-paid base is moved to the plan.
While customers’ standard base rate plans will be shifted to a per second pulse rate, they will have the freedom to opt for additional tariff discount packs for discounted per sec or per minute benefits, the company said.
“While we continue to invest aggressively in our network quality and deploy new sites to further enhance our robust and wide network presence, as yet another token measure of our commitment, we are today taking the lead to move our customers to the affordable per second plans ensuring that they pay only for what they use,” Puri added.
