Amazon.in, the Indian arm of global e-commerce giant Amazon, has entered the pet supplies category with over 3,000 products ranging from pet food, apparel, leashes, and aquarium, among others.
It has tied up with over 100 domestic and international brands like Pedigree, Royal Canin, Cibau, Trixie, Kong, Drools, Scoobee and many more.
The store also offers a wide selection of speciality products for pets with special dietary needs like health supplements, products for diabetic pets, and splints for dogs with fractures, the company said in a statement.
With detailed product information, useful reviews, images and videos and the added advantage of Amazon.in’s powerful and innovative recommendations engine available on the store, customers can now discover new brands and products for their beloved pets.
With more than 50 per cent of the store’s selection eligible for next-day guaranteed delivery, pet owners can enjoy the benefits of fast and reliable delivery of products at their doorstep .

At present, a few niche players such as dogspot.com * , pepperfry.com, petgenie.com and indiamart.com are trying to woo pet lovers in a few cities.
However, with the reach that Amazon provides, pet owners in smaller towns even can get access to certain products that are unavailable in these areas.
According to Euromonitor International, a research firm, an entire industry catering to pets is mushrooming in India, and growing at a compound annual growth rate of 10-15 per cent; currently, the size of the industry is pegged at about Rs 370 crore approximately.
Dogs make up for about 80 per cent (estimates put the number of pet dogs at 3.6 million in the six major cities) of this rather nascent industry, cats about 15 per cent, and birds and fish 5 per cent.
