Global e-commerce major Amazon will invest Rs 500 crore in the next three years on expansion of its facility in India.
Mr John Schoettler, Amazon's Vice-President, has met Mr Ponnala Lakshmaiah, Minister for Information Technology, here on Wednesday to discuss the expansion project and legal issues involved with regard to the land allotted to it for the proposed expansion.
Amazon runs a variety of services out of Hyderabad to ensure smooth transactions. The teams that work out of this centre includes Ordering Services, Enterprises Team, Global Financial Services and inventory management.
Amazon employs around 3,300 people at its two lakh sq ft facility here. “The State Government has allotted land to the company which came up with expansion plans. But a legal problem delayed the project. We hope that it will be resolved soon,” Mr Ponnala Lakshmaiah told reporters after the meeting with Amazon representatives.
He said the company planned to invest Rs 500 crore more on expansion that was likely to generate employment to more than double the present number.
Stating that infrastructure facilities in Hyderabad were attracting multinational companies to invest here, he said the State had brought under Essential Services category and put it outside the purview of power cuts.
