After officially confirming its plan to set up a huge centre in India, Apple has begun to look for human resources to man the facility at Gachibowli here.

Though the firm has not announced what it is going to do at the Indian facility, it is learnt that a good number of the employees would work on its maps project.

“The US phone and PC-maker is going to have 4,500 employees initially. Of this, 200-300 would be on the company’s rolls and the remaining as contract staff. The firm has begun the hiring process,” a top official of the Telangana government told

BusinessLine .

“We got communication from the firm, informing about its intent to set up the centre at the 2.5 lakh sq ft WaveRock facility developed by Tishman Speyer,” the official, who doesn’t want to be quoted, said.

According to him, the firm had begun actively hiring for its India operations. The phone maker had sought nod from the special economic zone to start its operations at the facility in the next few months. “They have got the formal nod a few days ago,” the official said.

This is going to be the second major win for Telangana after Google announcing its plans to build a 20-lakh sq ft facility, not very far from the Apple’s location.

Google said it would invest about ₹1,000 crore on the facility. The firm is expected to begin work this year on the facility, which would be the biggest for the firm outside the US.
