With telcos offering voice over LTE service (or VoLTE) and 5G networks being readied for testing in the country, solution provider Ericsson is eyeing an opportunity in the high-end data analytics segment.
The company is offering a portfolio of such solutions and platforms targeting the Indian market.
Data analytics
According to Neeraj Vyas, Head of Digital Business Solutions, Ericsson, analytics has been a key focus area for the company for quite some time now.
But, growing complexity of telecom networks, advent of 5G and connected devices through Internet of Things (IoT) have brought in the need for real-time data analytics, faster dissemination and more customer-centric solutions.
“Globally, there are 14-18 countries where we have deployed the high-end data analytics platform like Ericsson Expert Analytics (EEA). These include Europe, the US and South-East Asia. Now, we are looking at India where VoLTE services are picking up. 5G and connected devices too will be a reality in coming years,” he told BusinessLine .
Expert analytics
Amongst the global high-end offerings that are being offered here is the EEA platform, which focuses on improving customer experience with real-time, end-to-end telecom analytics.
Explaining the need for advanced analytics solutions, Vyas pointed out that the next-generation networks will provide ubiquitous mobile communication not only for people but also for connected things.
Challenges such as ability of the network to handle a massive number of connected devices at low cost and the need for increased energy performance on both the client and network side will also crop up; and this is where the company’s dedicated solutions will come in.
“While there are pieces of analytics built into all our products and solutions, dedicated solutions such as EEA will help telecom operators automate actions that increase (customer) loyalty, shore-up average revenue per user, among other benefits,” he said.
In India, Ericsson is already piloting the solution with a telco, whose name Vyas did not reveal.
Some of the global deployments that have already happened include one with T-Mobile (in the US) and another with EE, the UK’s largest mobile operator.
